LiveThreat Vulnerability Brief — CVE‑2025‑71214

What It Is — A local privilege escalation (LPE) flaw in Trend Micro Apex One’s iCore service that fails to validate the origin of inter‑process communication (IPC) messages, allowing a low‑privileged attacker to execute arbitrary code as root. Exploitability — Requires prior low‑privilege code execution; no public exploit disclosed, but proof‑of‑concept code is anticipated. CVSS 7.8 (AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H).

Affected Products — Trend Micro Apex One Security Agent (iCore service). TPRM Impact — Endpoint agents are often deployed by Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and SaaS platforms; an unpatched LPE can lead to compromise of client machines, lateral movement, and potential data exposure across the supply chain.

Recommended Actions — 1️⃣ Apply Trend Micro’s patch (KB KA‑0022458) immediately. 2️⃣ Verify all Apex One agents are running the patched version. 3️⃣ Conduct endpoint scans for anomalous processes. 4️⃣ Enforce least‑privilege service accounts and restrict IPC channels. 5️⃣ Update incident‑response playbooks to include LPE detection and containment.
