LiveThreat Vulnerability Brief — CVE-2026-25656

What It Is — Siemens SINEC NMS contains an uncontrolled search‑path element in its OpenSSL configuration. A local attacker who can run low‑privileged code can force the product to load a malicious configuration file, escalating to SYSTEM privileges and executing arbitrary code. Exploitability — No public exploit code has been released, but the vulnerability is trivial to weaponize once low‑level access is obtained; CVSS v3.1 base score 7.8 (High).

Affected Products — Siemens SINEC NMS (network‑management suite).

TPRM Impact — The flaw can be leveraged by a compromised third‑party or service provider that runs SINEC NMS on behalf of customers, creating a supply‑chain foothold that may spread to downstream organizations.

Recommended Actions — 1️⃣ Verify that all SINEC NMS installations have applied Siemens’ security update (SSA‑311973). 2️⃣ Audit OpenSSL configuration paths to ensure they point only to trusted, access‑controlled locations. 3️⃣ Restrict local execution rights on hosts running SINEC NMS; employ least‑privilege service accounts. 4️⃣ Incorporate the patch status into third‑party risk assessments and vendor‑risk dashboards.
