VULNERABILITY BRIEF 🔴 Critical Vulnerability

Critical Firmware Flaws in Kiloview E3 NDI Encoder Enable Remote Code Execution and Full Device Takeover

CISA has disclosed nine critical vulnerabilities (CVSS 9.9) in Kiloview E3 NDI Encoder firmware versions prior to 1.30. Exploitable weaknesses include OS‑command injection, missing authentication, path traversal, and hard‑coded credentials, potentially granting an attacker root control of the device. Organizations must remediate these gaps to preserve audit‑ready control assurance.

Critical Firmware Flaws in Kiloview E3 NDI Encoder (Multiple CVEs) Enable Remote Code Execution

What It Is – CISA’s advisory (ICSA‑26‑295‑01) lists nine critical vulnerabilities in Kiloview E3 NDI Encoder firmware < 1.30, each assigned CVSS v3 9.9. The flaws span OS‑command injection, missing authentication, path‑traversal, hard‑coded credentials, and a null‑pointer dereference.

Exploitability – The vulnerabilities are exploitable via the device’s web‑management API. An attacker with a valid web‑user account (or, in some cases, no authentication) can execute arbitrary commands as root, persist the payload across reboots, and achieve full device compromise. No public PoC is required; the advisory notes that successful exploitation “could allow an attacker to fully compromise the device.”

Affected Products – Kiloview E3 NDI Encoder firmware versions prior to 1.30 (all models using the affected firmware).

Why It Matters for Trust & Control Assurance

  • Patch & version control – Demonstrating that only approved firmware versions are deployed provides concrete evidence for audit trails and continuous compliance monitoring.
  • Secure configuration management – Verifying that web‑management interfaces enforce authentication and proper input sanitization aligns with control objectives for access control and change management.
  • Evidence of remediation – Capturing remediation actions (patch deployment, configuration hardening) in a centralized Trust Center creates defensible proof for regulators and enterprise buyers.

Recommended Actions

  1. Inventory every Kiloview E3 device and record the installed firmware version.
  2. Upgrade all encoders to firmware ≥ 1.30 or apply vendor‑issued patches immediately.
  3. Enforce network segmentation and restrict web‑management access to trusted admin subnets.
  4. Enable logging of management‑API activity and integrate logs into a SIEM for continuous monitoring.
  5. Document the remediation steps in your control‑evidence repository to support audit readiness.
